Bonjour,
There are still a few students who have not yet handed in the math and science assignments due on Monday. Please ensure that those are completed over the weekend.
Reminder that there is a quiz in math on Tuesday. Go over the review questions from class today as a way of solidifying understanding and confidence with finding area and circle.
Sciences Humaines: Please work on completing the images and good copy for the poster. There will be a bit more time given in class early next week, but ideally, everyone will be close to finished by Monday. Please have your work saved on a memory stick or email so if there are editing changes need to be made on Tuesday, they can be changed on the computer during a work block at school.
Next Week Big Events/Activities:
Tuesday: Math test and Band concert
Wednesday: Band concert and Social Studies in-class debate
Thursday: gingerbread house building competition for Advisory 51
Friday: Secret Santa gift and card exchange(please do not spend more than 10 dollars and feel free to make and or cook/bake your gift)
Passez une bonne fin de semaine!

Bonnes Vacances!!!
First of all I want to say a HUGE thank-you for the thoughtful and very generous gift I received yesterday. I was very touched (and surprised). The flowers are beautiful (so bright and cheerful) and the gift certificates are for my two favourite stores : ) I also want to say thank-you to Advisory 42 for being a group of conscientious, fun, kind, positive, and hard working students. It's been a thoroughly enjoyable year for me (this is an understatement) and I thank you so much for that too.
I also want to wish everyone in a safe and fun summer vacation! I hope everyone enjoys the break from school and gets rested and recharged for Grade 7.
Passez de très belles vacances!

Bonjour,
Wishing everyone a safe and relaxing weekend! There is no homework except to remember appropriate clothing and footwear for our field trip to the Imax and Beacon Hill Park on Monday. Please be at the classroom for 8:20 so we can catch the bus right away and be in time for the IMAX at 9:00am.
Important Reminder: Parents giving us a ride back to school should meet us just across from the Petting Zoo area of Beacon Hill Park (there is a bit of a field there) at 2:30 so we can be at Lansdowne for 2:50. Thank-you!

Bonjour,
Thank-you to everyone for bringing all the delicious food inspired by the countries studied in Sciences Humaines. The food was positively delectable and it was such a treat to try dishes from around the world!
Math re-quiz for those who need another try at mesuring angles (remember, always to ask yourself is the angle acute or obtuse before measuring and always beginning at 0 degrees when reading the protractor).
Reminder to those with missing books to scour your homes for them. Also, bring appropriate footwear and clothing for beach day tomorrow. It is supposed to cool off a bit so it would be a good idea to bring a sweater (and sunscreen/hat etc).

Just a reminder to please bring EVERYTHING necessary to complete science poster and socials report which are both due by the end of the day tomorrow. If this means emailing me the documents you've worked on at home, please do so! (mcouture@sd61.bc.ca)
Note: Three notices went home today for upcoming trips/excursions. The IMAX/Beacon Hill Park outing requires permission (apologies for the date not being there except at the bottom. It's for Monday June 27th)
Also, our multicultural luncheon is next Wednesday (the 22nd) highlighting food from the countries you've been studying in social studies. Please let me know what you are planning to bring by Monday so we can have a sense of whether we have enough main dishes.

Bonjour,
For those who think we are going to the beach tomorrow, our beach outting had to be postponed until next week due to the high volume of work that needs to happen on Social Studies and Science projects which are due by Friday at the absolute latest. We will have more work time at school but more for editing and formatting at this point. All sections should be typed for both projects at this point.
Reminder to bring the poster board for Science project (unless you are using my flat poster paper) so that work can be completed during class time (e.g. assembling text and images). Models can be brought in for next week.
There will be an information notice about the beach outting sent home by the end of this week (tentatively planned for Thursday June 23rd) as well as the permission form for the IMAX field trip (Monday the 27th) and the parent volunteer driving request form for our Cirque du Soleil experience (Friday May 24th).
**All Glee performers: this is a reminder to come prepared to perform for Mme Aristou's class tomorrow (block before lunch). It would be AWESOME if you could wear the costumes again as I was hoping to film this performance**

Bonjour,
I just wanted to say that everyone who participated in today's talent show did an excellent job. It takes a lot of courage to get up in front of one's friends and peers to present. I was so impressed by everyone's performance. A special "WOW! Great Job!" goes out to all the students involved in the Glee performance. The acting was excellent, the singing superb and it all flowed together really well. It was down right AWESOME!
Devoirs:
Continue working on Science and Sciences Humaines and please bring work saved to a memory stick or email it to yourself so that editing/changes can be completed at school before work is put on the poster/in the report. I will be giving students 4 blocks next week in the computer lab to make final changes/print their work/assemble the poster/report for Science and Sciences Humaines.
C'est tout,

There will be another work block in the library tomorrow afternoon for science. Please come prepared (notes, pencil, informational texts if necessary).

Bonjour,
Sciences Humaines: Just a reminder that notes for Social Studies project are due on Monday. I will be conferencing with each student between Monday and Wednesday to look over where each person is at with their researching. Remember, the report is NOT DUE yet...only the notes containing the information you wish to include in the report are due. This is meant to keep everyone on track so that the report will be finished on time.
Maths: some students have a quiz on integers "nombres entiers" on Monday (if you chose to do extra review). Don't forget to do the following questions as further review:
a) (-14) - (+ 8) =
b)(-10)-(-13)=
c) 17-5 =
d) (+9)+(-3) =
e) (+6)+(-8) =
Don't forget to keep track of your "positive" and "negative" thoughts/attitudes over the weekend.
If you want to access World Book Encyclopedia at home a reminder that you can log on using the following info:
username: lms36
password: sd61
Passez une très bonne fin de semaine et Joyeuse Fêtes des Mères!

Bonjour,
Just a reminder that we still need a few parent drivers for our Thursday field trip to the film "C'est pas moi je le jure". We will be leaving Lansdowne at 12:00pm and leaving Capitol 6 close at 2:30pm. Parents do not need to stay during the film (only drop off and pick up needed).
I am also missing a few permission forms from students. A signed note is ok if the form is lost.
Devoirs:
Please bring PE strip as we may have PE class to replace the PE block we are missing on Thursday (weather permitting as we will be doing Track & Field outside).
Continue working on French oral presentations (due next week). There will be a block tomorrow to work on it.

Bonjour,
Unfortunately I am still quite sick this is an early reminder to please bring permission forms in for Friday's field trip if you haven't done so...I've spoken to the students who still need to hand it in (even a note and bus fare will do).
Sciences Humaines: If you have not finished your bibliography, it is essential you do so even if there is no room for it on the poster (I want to see all sources used). All posters should be finished by the end of today tomorrow if they are not already completed. I am very impressed at the attention to detail I am seeing with the presentation of information so far.
Friday Field Trip Reminder: Please arrive by 8:15/8:20 on Friday morning as we will be leaving at or even before the bell if possible so that the buses are not too full.
Lock/Desk Clean-up will be taking place tomorrow (Thursday). Bring an extra bag if you think you have things to take home.
REMINDER: WEAR ORANGE ON FRIDAY FOR HOCKEY DAY!!!!!! (ALLEZ EQUIPE ORANGE!!!!)
Bonne soirée,
Mme Couture
Bonne soirée,
Mme Couture

Bonjour,
Devoirs:
Sciences Humaines: if you are missing anything for the poster, please complete and bring to school tomorrow (there will be one more block tomorrow afternoon to assemble the posters). It is essential to bring your documents saved to a memory stick or email them to yourselves (not me as I am sick : ( ) as there could be last minute changes/editing.
Français: Lit circles will take place tomorrow morning first thing. Bring a snack if you are the director and make sure your activity is detailed and completed (bring your novel as well).
Maths: We will be having a quiz on ratio this Wednesday. Review equivalent ratios and the ways in which you can write ratios (e.g. 2:5 or 2 à 5...if it's a "partie-tout ratio", you can also write in a fraction format with the "tout" as the denomintaor (e.g. 2/5).
Reminder to bring PE strip as there is PE after recess.

Bonjour,
Have a safe, productive and enjoyable weekend!
Devoirs:
Sciences Humaines: project is due Monday (make sure to bring your work on a memory stick or email a copy to yourself or me as there might be last minute editing and formatting changes to make). I will give two blocks on Monday for work to be assembled by the group onto poster paper which I will provide.
I am still missing a few maps of Canada. Please bring these on Monday!
Science: handout comparing energy sources was due today. If you have not finished it or it still needs detail added, please complete it for Monday.
Français: Last day of lit. circles will probably be delayed until Tuesday as we need to finish the Social Studies projects. Please have all activities finished for Monday in case we do have time to have our discussion.
Work on finding a topic for oral presentations as well as the sub-topics for the three sections of your presentation (see my post from two days ago for an example of what that might look like).

Reminder that hockey mask competition closes first thing tomorrow morning so get those hockey mask designs in to me at the bell!
Devoirs:
Maths: Ratio questions (from class today) are due tomorrow (needs to be finished at home if not already completed) as well as calculations from Feb. temperatures.
Sciences Humaines: Good copy of your govt. projects needs to be finished on Monday. We will have a final work block tomorrow but it should be in its final stages (all completed and now only working on editing/corrections). Also, don't forget the bibliography!
Français: today we began oral presentation assignment (homework is to think of a topic and three sub-themes about that topic which you will be discussing in the presentation). Use the hand-out I gave today to organize thinking (also keep in mind the types of topics to choose based on our in-class brainstorm). E.g. nuclear energy, cancer treatments, the effect of literacy/education of the masses on a country's economy, marijuana, energy drinks (e.g. redbull), fast food chains like MacDonalds etc.
Français: finish reading novel and completing activity for Monday's literature circles.

Bonjour,
I firstly want to say a big thank-you to all students who brought food for the literature circles today. Our first discussion day went very well. Almost everyone was prepared and there were a lot of meaningful comments made about the stories you are reading. Bravo!
I also want to say thank-you to everyone who brought a beverage or snack for our Valentine's Day celebration and I want to apologize again if anyone was uncomfortable with the movie choice. I learned today that I always need to preview movies even if the rating is PG or G and even if 85% of the class votes for a movie, Mme Couture gets a veto privilege : ). Si vous n'avez pas aimé cette expérience, je suis désolée!
Devoirs:
Projects: We will have a gallery walk tomorrow (everyone will have a chance to look at the posters and reports). I am very excited to take a closer look at what appear to be detailed and beautifully presented topics.
Français: Continue reading novels and preparing for next week's literature circles. you will be given at least two blocks of class time to work on this assignment.
Joyeux St. Valentin à tous! Merci beaucoup pour les cartes et bonbons!

Bonjour,
I just wanted to say how impressed I was with everyone's participation in our West African dance session today in the fitness studio. Everyone did a great job with the new drum beats and demonstrated enthusiasm (as well as respect towards our presenters). Bravo!
Devoirs:
Projects are due on Monday (remember I'm interested in quality rather than a finished product thrown together Sunday afternoon. I am willing to give an extension to Wed. IF the quality of the project will be superior with a couple of extra days to work on it).
Lit Circles: Please bring your novel AND completed lit circle activity for Monday's discussion. It is imperative to be prepared for this class as participation in the discussion is what makes the Book Club enjoyable and productive.
Valentine's Day card exchange: Don't forget your your "secret Valentine's" card so that we can share them. If you volunteered to bring a snack item for our Valentine's Day celebration try to remember : )
Passe une très bonne fin de semaine!

Bonjour,
Just a reminder to make sure you bring your self evaluation of the five practices to class tomorrow along with your 'student-led' conference quizzes.
We have PE tomorrow so remember your gym strip. A reminder that there will be no 6/7 girls or boys volleyball practice due to student-led conferences and that we have early dismissal (after Block 4).
Devoirs:
Projects: continue working on your projects. Remember to bring your work to class so you can use class time effectively. If work is on the computer, it might be an idea to save it to a memory stick so it can be worked on at school. Another option is to printed completed drafts so that work can be peer edited.
Scholastic orders are due Feb. 1st (next Tuesday)
Make sure that Constructeur de Connexion and the Science lab report are submitted tomorrow if they were not handed in today.

There is enough interest to persue purchasing tickets but as the informational letter states, tickets must be purchased in advance and any fundraising monies gathered at a later date will be evenly distributed back to participating students.
In order to ensure ticket availability, tickets will be purchased this Wednesday (the 19th) for the June 24th 3:30opm show ONLY FOR STUDENTS WHO HAVE SUBMITTED PAYMENT. Cheques can be made out to Lansdowne Middle School in the amount of 74.00$. Apologies for the short notice but this show sells out quickly!

Projet: Here is a breakdown of due dates for the project:
Research: completed and brought to class
Notes: note taking on the research/information you found on your topic should be completed by Wednesday of this week (some are already finished this stage)
Rough Draft: once detailed and precise notes are completed in French, the rough draft for the finished product can begin. The final version of your rough draft must be completed by January 28th.
Good Copy/Completed Project: February 14th is the date that the project is due. This means that the good copy of any written portions should be completed slightly earlier to allow time for project to be assembled with images and the bibliography etc.
Science: Reminder that our Protist lab is on Wednesday. Please bring pond water samples for Wed. (or tomorrow).

Bonjour,
I hope that this week has been going smoothly despite my absence due to illness. I just wanted to check in and post a few reminders.

Friday will be our last day dedicated to information gathering in the computer lab.
Please continue to check project plan to ensure that all the information needed to complete project has been obtained.
**Please do not begin writing rough drafts until note taking is complete as I would like to be able to give some feedback before the writing process begins to ensure everyone is on the right track**
Maths: continue reviewing equivalent fractions, reducing fractions and finding percentages of whole numbers (e.g. 20% of 80; 30% of 40; 50% of 90 etc).

Please bring a binder OR be prepared to transfer part of what you have in your current binder to a storage box which we will keep in the classroom
Please bring your project plan as we will begin researching in the library tomorrow.
